James Horner is a visual chronicler who attempts to educate the public and divert discrimination from his LGBTQ+ tribe. He has been creating artworks for over 20 years; has an M.F.A. in painting from Lehman College, Bronx, NY; and is a member artist at the Amos Eno Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; the New York Artists Equity Association, Inc., New York, NY; the Teleportal artist collective; and the Scorchzine artist zine publisher.
Horner fixes on ordinary queer folk, their issues, and LGBTQ+ icons – like civil rights activists, Marsha P. Johnson and David Wojnarowicz. Trying-on different mediums, he focuses on figurative painting, but also experiments with drawings, sculptures, and most recently zines.
His artworks have been shown in “Blink,” a public art show with projections in a building’s windows in Chicago and regular exhibits in New York – The Bronx, Museum, Lichtundfire, and Equity Gallery (all in 2024); Satchel Projects, The Painting Center, Studio 9D, and Amos Eno Gallery (all in 2023); Greenwich House Pottery (2022); and Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art (2019, 2017, 2015, 2013).
In 2024, he will participate for a second time in the DNA Artist Residency, Provincetown, MA, and the Atelier Residency at Chateau Bouthonvilleres, Dangeau, France. In 2023, he participated in these residencies: Uncool Artist, Brooklyn, NY; DNA Artist Residency; and the Bronx Museum, Bronx, NY.
