As a former physician (pathologist) turned artist, Walter Brown acknowledges the influence of his forty-plus years of microscopic observation on how he views the world. Brown’s artworks arise at the interface between medical/scientific perception and the artistic way of seeing. They freely and exuberantly extend beyond visual memories, and incorporate fantasy with reality. The basic unit is small, and builds up organically, as if from a cellular level, to eventually form dynamic compositions. Additionally, due to nature’s fractal organization, the microscopic world is a convenient take-off point for additional explorations with variations of scale.
