The Water's Edge

Rose Briccetti, Daniel Ranalli, and Tabitha Vevers

July 29 – August 12, 2023

READYMADE is pleased to present The Water's Edge, an exhibition of works by Rose Briccetti, Daniel Ranalli, and Tabitha Vevers.

At the convergence of sky, sea, and land The Water's Edge presents the work of three artists whose lives have landed on the coasts. Contemplating the Sublime by gazing into the horizon of the ocean, artists have for millennia taken the seascape as subject matter, never wearying of its unfathomable mysteries and scale. Daniel Ranalli and Tabitha Vevers' practices are inextricably linked to the shores of New England. Their works plumb the depths of the long history, natural wonder, and our collective mythology of the United States North Atlantic. Daniel Ranalli's conceptual practice spans photography, print, and earthworks rooted in his surrounding environment. In his "Snail Drawings" series, and his own Zen like lines through the sand, the prints document the temporal and fleeting marks upon the land. Tabitha Vevers' paintings allude to her own idyllic childhood spent on the beach in contrast with the current reality of a warming climate.

Across the continent, Rose Briccetti situates herself in the warm climates of Southern California and Florida. Her work remixes pop imagery with the abject, reflecting where civilization ends and bewilderment kicks in. The paintings are a spectacle of the vastness of material culture in the age of late capitalism. In the time of ocean plastics, sea level rise, melting ice caps and gyres of floating garbage patches, our infatuation with the ocean takes on new meaning as we confront the unforgiving sea in the face of the impact of our human actions.

The exhibition is the fourth in READYMADE's summer series. The program coincides with the annual DNA artist residency. Each year national and international artists are invited to the Cape of Massachusetts to create work continuing their practice and to be inspired by the Cape's beautiful landscape. The residency provides housing in Orleans and Eastham, and 2,000 sq feet of studio space in Provincetown.

Daniel Ranalli and Tabitha Vevers live and work in Cambridge and Wellfleet, MA

Rose Briccetti will be in residence at DNA July 16 - 30, 2023
